The Career Exploration website was created based on the accumulated experience of the involved programs, such as the Education and Skills Training Program (ESTR) and the Adult Basic Education (ABE) and University Preparation (UPrep) programs. The development of the site was based on extensive research from reliable institutional sources, ensuring that the content was accurate, up-to-date, and relevant to the students’ needs. Additionally, external criteria were considered to ensure that the site is accessible, inclusive, and tailored to the diverse learning needs of students.

The design of the site focuses on diversity and inclusion, reflecting different roles, genders, identities, and contexts. The images used are contextual and are complemented by a diversity of formats, such as videos, texts, downloadable resources, links, video transcripts, and interactive activities created with H5P, providing a comprehensive learning experience.

In terms of an ethical approach, the site’s content is based on authorized academic and institutional sources to ensure the reliability of the information provided. The language is respectful and inclusive, promoting clear and objective communication, centered on diversity and respect for different identities.

The site also integrates the use of artificial intelligence and other technologies to enhance the user experience. AI was used to verify video scripts through ChatGPT, generate voices with NaturalReader, create graphics using tools like napkin.ai and markmap, and edit visual content using Camtasia and Canvas. These tools help improve the accessibility and interactivity of the site.

In line with the principles of open access, the site utilizes TRU Open Press, an area of Thompson Rivers University that promotes open access to educational resources. TRU Open Press was founded in 2023 with support from an Integrated Strategic Planning grant from the university to develop Open Educational Resources (OER) and support Open Educational Practices (OEP) at TRU. This ensures that the site’s resources are accessible and reusable, allowing for collaboration and participation from a wider community of educators. The images come from free and royalty-free image banks like Pexels and Pixabay, facilitating the distribution of quality content without restrictions.

The site is designed for a diversity of audiences, including professors from all areas of Thompson Rivers University (TRU), students from the Education and Skills Training Program (ESTR), students from other disciplines, and teaching or administrative staff who wish to use the content as an example in their educational practices. This inclusive approach ensures that all users can benefit from the site according to their needs and educational goals.
