Career Exploration is an open educational resource created by Christina Cederlof and Jeisil Aguilar Santos, faculty and staff at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). Built on the WordPress platform, this openly accessible site offers inclusive, engaging, and learner-centered career planning materials. With a focus on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), this project is rooted in the principles of accessibility, equity, and representation.

The Career Exploration website aims to be an example of adaptive and inclusive OER creation. It integrates curated materials aligned with the accessible education and training and includes enhancements such as audio narration, video transcripts, and interactive H5P activities. Where gaps existed in available OER—particularly in areas like Employability and Workplace Communication Skills—the team has created new resources, using ethical and student-focused design principles. The inclusion of Indigenous Ways of Knowing further deepens the site’s relevance and impact, fostering meaningful engagement with multiple perspectives and cultural knowledge systems.

This project is more than a career readiness resource—it aims to be a model for inclusive, decolonized, and future-focused education. By using open technologies and accessible platforms, the Career Exploration site ensures that students, educators, and institutions across Canada and beyond can benefit from high-quality, adaptable materials. The site has been thoughtfully designed to support both individual learners and classroom instruction, making it a flexible and valuable addition to any educational setting.

This collaborative and student-centered approach—supported by TRU Open Press—has resulted in a sustainable, scalable resource that fills critical gaps in the accessible education. By making this content freely available under an open license, we have created a resource that is essential to building more accessible, responsive, and equitable educational environments.
